The chained, intensified, and low-footprint scale-X™ carbo system is upgraded with a new version offering improved functionalities that address the need for increased connectivity, data accessibility, automation, and sustained batch safety.

What’s new?

  • Connectivity for peace of mind
    > New remote visualization and control functionality available. Monitor the progress of an on-going run or stay informed of events from your desk. Additional comfort for informed decision making.
    > Real-time data, including process data and alarms, is accessible through OPC-UA directly via the system’s PLC for added batch safety. Interface seamlessly with external SCADA, DCS or data historization platforms (e.g. DeltaV™) for data acquisition, batch reporting, alarm management or system control.
  • Improved automation for sustained batch safety
    Backup pH and DO probes provide added safety during production under GMP conditions. The new scale-X carbo controller automates probe switch during unexpected event, thereby reducing the reliance on operator action.
  • scale-X cell collect compatible
    The scale-X cell collect module (supplied separately), enabling the recovery of up to 2 x 109 cells / m² from scale-X carbo bioreactor, is available . Plug and play functionality with the new scale-X carbo controller.

Low footprint and optimized use of capital for production under GMP conditions

The scale-X carbo bioreactor is a benchtop system that operates at cell densities above 50 million / mL of fixed-bed and high cell-specific productivities in a very low volume. It fits on a bench and is suitable for process development and production under GMP conditions. Depending on the amount of drug product required, the scale-X carbo bioreactor can be used to produce clinical and even commercial material.

Additionally, it optimizes capital spending during clinical development: reaching the market can imply investing in large-scale equipment at risk. The capacity enabled by the scale-X carbo bioreactor can address your clinical and, depending on application, your commercial needs, helpfully allowing to delay the decision to invest larger sums until it is safer to do so.

New approach in intermediate-scale benchtop production

The scale-X carbo system is a bench-scale automated cell culture system for expression and concentration of biological drug substances. It is suited for rapid process development and cost-effective clinical or commercial production, offering 10 to 30 m² of growth surface.

This intermediate-scale bioreactor fills the gap between R&D, clinical and commercial production, offering higher cell densities, simplified bioprocessing, and more advanced process development in its low footprint and scalable processing platform.

The scale-X family is a low footprint, reliable, scalable fixed-bed system from research (2.4 m2 of growth surface) to clinical (10 and 30 m2) and manufacturing-scale (200 and 600 m2).
